Since its establishment in 1989, Rovos Rail has gained an international reputation for providing truly world-class travel experiences. In a series of bespoke train journeys ranging from 48 hours to 15 nights, Rovos Rail links some of the continent’s greatest destinations with a variety of off-train excursions. Step aboard vintage wood-panelled carriages and sit back as some of the most diverse scenery imaginable unfolds beyond the windows. With discreet and friendly service, fine cuisine, and a selection of South Africa’s finest wines, Rovos Rail harkens back to a simpler, more elegant era that embraces the timeless grace and high romance of African exploration.

The beautifully restored trains, which can be powered by diesel or electric locomotives, carry up to 72 passengers in 36 superbly appointed suites and are also available for charter, while the Event Train can accommodate up to 250 guests and is suitable for day trips.

It’s the most luxurious train in the world.
Its central station in Pretoria is undoubtedly the most impressive private train station, with a spacious and elegant departure hall.
The two classic «Pride of Africa» trains, each with a maximum capacity of 72 passengers, and the 42-passenger Edwardian train, as well as classic aircraft, operate regular and annual scheduled services.
Breakfast, lunch, and formal dinners are served in the magnificent Victorian dining car, which seats all passengers at the same time.
The cuisine is carefully selected on board the trains and accompanied by a selection of excellent South African wines.
